Confidentiality is at the heart of counselling work, and it essential for building trust and ensuring that the counselling space feels safe and secure for you to share openly.
However, there are a few exceptions:
As a member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP)
I follow their Ethical Framework, which means I regularly take my work to supervision. This is to ensure I am working ethically, professionally, and effectively. My supervisor is also bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
If I believe you or someone else may be at serious risk of harm, or if required by law, I may need to break confidentiality.
These exceptions are rare and will always be handled with care and transparency.
